7 Day Self-Love Challenge

ENDS NOVEMBER 30, 2018

7 yoga poses to balance each of the chakras including an affirmation and simple meditation for each.

Day 1

Root Chakra (muladhara)- Is our foundation and allows us to feel safe, secure & stable. A balanced root chakra establishes a deep connection to our physical body, our environment, and mother earth.

Affirmation:

“I am a divine being of light and I am safe, protected & secure.”

Yoga Pose - Yogi Squat (Malasana)

Meditation:

  1. Sit with your shoulders back and your spine straight. Try to relax all your muscles as you close your eyes and breathe deeply.
  2. Inhale through the nose, pulling the breath as far down into the pelvic floor and exhale through the mouth.
  3. Turn your attention to the location of the root chakra, right below your tailbone. Notice any tightness in the area.
  4. Since the root chakra’s element is red, try picturing a red glow at the base of your spine. This glow will slowly expand, making the whole area warm and relaxed.
  5. Rest in this sensation for 3-5 minutes or as long as you feel comfortable (set a timer if you like)
  6. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Sit for a few minutes before continuing with your day.

Day 2

Sacral Chakra (svadhisthana) - It is the driving force for the enjoyment of life through the senses, whether it’s auditory, taste, touch, or sight. Opening your sacral chakra allows you to “feel” the world around and in us.

Affirmation

“I allow my emotions to flow through me in a healthy way”

Yoga Pose - Wide-Angle Seated Forward Bend (Upavistha Konasana)

Meditation

  1. Once you get into that meditative state, focus on the energy being brought up through your feet and through your root chakra, then up into your navel.
  2. Imagine a ball of orange energy forming below your belly button which grows larger and larger with each deep inhale. The orange ball of energy will start to swirl in a clockwise position and you will feel a slight tingle in your lower abdomen and lower back where the chakra is located.
  3. Keep your focus on this chakra - if thought begin to drift in your mind simply bring your attention back to your meditation - focus on this chakra from 3 - 5 min - or as long as feels comfortable for you.
  4. When ready bring your attention back to your breath, the room which you are in and gently begin to wake the body up - after a few breaths bring more awareness to your surrounding finally bringing your eyes to open.

Day 3

Solar Plexus Chakra (manipura) - Characterized by the expression of will, personal power, and mental abilities, the energy of the third chakra or Manipura in Sanskrit is mobilized when we assert ourselves in the world.

Affirmation

“ I am confident. I allow vital life force energy to flow through me, and animate my life on all levels. I take responsibility from my actions, my feelings, and my thoughts. I allow myself to shine.”

Yoga Pose - Cobra (Bhujangasana)

Meditation

  1. Sit comfortably and bring your attention to your breath and body - after a few breaths of centering yourself - Place your hands over your stomach.
  2. Imagine your Solar Plexus Chakra as a ball of yellow light glowing in your abdomen.
  3. With each breath, imagine yellow light entering your body and going straight to this area, making it glow even brighter. As your Solar Plexus begins to radiate, your confidence and personal power will become stronger.
  4. Now imagine the yellow light from your Solar Plexus begins to spread throughout your body. Every muscle and every cell is being wrapped in this warm, glowing yellow light. Feel yourself becoming more and more empowered.
  5. Take in this energy for a few breaths or as long as feels appropriate.
  6. When ready begin to bring awareness back into your breath and body - allow yourself to come back in tune with your surroundings gently bringing your eyes to an open.

Day 4

Heart Chakra (Anahata) - When the heart chakra is open you may feel deeply connected to yourself and your surroundings as well as feel a deep appreciation for the beauty around.

Affirmation

“I am love, I let love in. I am kind to myself and others. I live in peace and gratitude”

Yoga Pose - Wheel (Urdhva Dhanurasana)

Meditation

  1. Breathe slowly, smoothly and deeply into the belly and into the chest. Soften your gaze or lightly close the eyes. Let go of any thoughts or distractions and let the mind focus on feeling the breath move in and out of your body.
  2. Place the right palm in the center of your chest and the left hand on top of the right. Close the eyes and feel the center of your chest warm and radiant, full of energy.
  3. See this energy as an emerald green light, radiating out from the center of your heart into the rest of your body. Feel this energy flowing out into the arms and hands, and flowing back into the heart.
  4. Stay with this visualization for one to five minutes.
  5. After you feel completely soaked with heart chakra energy, gently release the palms and turn them outwards with the elbows bent, the shoulders relaxed and the chest open.
  6. Feel or visualize the green light love energy flowing out of your palms and into the world.
  7. Bring awareness back into the body and your surroundings enjoying a few breaths and the benefits of the meditation - then slowly begin to focus on bringing your eyes to open.
